Porters Neck yards: bigger lots, older trees, golf-course standards
Porters Neck Plantation is the anchor — a gated golf community along the Intracoastal Waterway where the roads wind under mature oaks, magnolias, and crepe myrtles, with azaleas planted everywhere. Around it sit Marsh Oaks, Blue Point, and Vineyard Plantation. Lots here run larger than in-town Wilmington: inside the Plantation a two-thirds-acre lot counts as one of the biggest, and plenty of properties on the surrounding roads tip past an acre. That's the difference between our $55 and $85 mowing tiers, so it's worth knowing — our quote form reads the recorded acreage from New Hanover County parcel records, so the number you see is the number we mean.
Azaleas set the calendar
With this much azalea in the ground, hedge timing matters more here than almost anywhere we work. Azaleas set next spring's flower buds soon after they finish blooming, so we shape them once, right after the spring show, and leave them alone in late summer. Trim them in August and you've cut off next April.
What golf-community lawns expect
Established, HOA-minded neighborhoods want the same look every week: consistent mowing day, crisp perimeter edging along long drives and walks, and beds that stay dressed. Pine straw is the bed cover of choice out here, and a spring and fall refresh keeps it copper instead of gray. The mature oak canopy also means the February–April live-oak leaf drop lands on a lot of square footage, so we build spring cleanups into the schedule rather than treating them as an afterthought.
