Lawn care where the ocean has a vote
Wrightsville Beach is a 4.6-mile barrier island plus Harbor Island on the inside, and the mainland approach along Eastwood, Airlie, and Seagate. Island lots are small — nearly every yard here prices at our quarter-acre $55 tier — but they're also the most demanding square footage we maintain.
Salt spray isn't drought, but it looks like it
When ocean mist lands on a leaf, the salt pulls water out of the plant faster than the roots can replace it. The result is browning on the windward side of shrubs and grass that looks under-watered even when it's been watered. Salt-tolerant plantings handle it; a lot of inland favorites don't. The soil under all of it is beach sand — alkaline, fast-draining, and close to nutrient-free — so a mulched bed does double duty here, holding moisture and buffering salt intrusion at the root zone.
What actually thrives
Live oaks, sabal palmettos, pink muhly grass, and other natives that evolved on this coast. We keep those shaped and clean and won't push you toward plantings that will fight the site. Note that the dunes and native beach vegetation are regulated by the town — sea oats can't be removed, and work near the beach face often needs a permit — so we stay on the yard side of that line.
Rental turnover and sand
Sand tracks onto every driveway, walk, and patio, so the blow-off on a beach property is a bigger share of the visit than it is inland. For rental owners we're glad to coordinate around check-in days so the yard is guest-ready when it counts.
