Mulch Installation in Wilmington, NC

Fresh mulch is the fastest curb-appeal upgrade there is — and in Wilmington's sandy soil it works even harder, holding moisture through hot spells and keeping weeds down all season.

Why mulch matters more in sandy soil

Coastal soil drains fast — great after a storm, tough on plant roots in July. A proper 2–3 inch mulch layer slows evaporation, keeps root zones cooler, and breaks down into organic matter that sandy soil badly needs. It also smothers the weeds that otherwise love an open bed.

  • Bed prep: old mulch raked, weeds pulled, edges re-cut
  • Quality hardwood mulch laid at the right 2–3" depth
  • Kept clear of trunks and stems — no "mulch volcanoes"
  • Clean lines around beds, trees, and walkways

Quoted per job by bed size and mulch depth — a few tree rings and a whole-property refresh are priced very differently, and we confirm before starting.

When to refresh

Most Wilmington beds want fresh mulch once a year — early spring is the classic window, right as beds wake up and before summer weeds get going. If your mulch has faded to gray and thinned below an inch, it's stopped doing its job.

Not sure whether you want mulch or pine straw? We install both and will give you a straight comparison for your beds.

Common questions

Mulch or pine straw — which is better here?

Both work well in coastal yards. Mulch lasts longer and suppresses weeds a little better; pine straw is the classic Carolina look, costs less per refresh, and is gentler on acid-loving plants like azaleas and camellias.

How much mulch do my beds need?

A good rule: one cubic yard covers about 100 square feet at 3 inches deep. We measure your beds as part of the free quote so you never over-buy.

Do you remove the old mulch first?

We rake back and refresh what's there, pull weeds, and re-cut the edges. Full removal is only needed when old mulch is matted or diseased — we'll tell you if that's the case.
